Reformatting Hard Drive Led to Publishing Problems - 10/10/2004 15:44:54
After having failed to publish my webs to my hard drive and then to a disk, I realized (through these forums) that I'd have to erase the service.lck file and uncheck the "read-only" box for the "service" and "services" files before I could save changes to my pages. I realize by doing this, FrontPage now thinks that all my files were changed, so that when I try to publish changed pages only, it wanted to publish EVERY page and file. I let the entire web be published again the other night (it took over an hour on a cable connection), and I thought that would solve the problem.

But now when I try to publish a changed page only, my entire web gets published again. I have literally thousands of files and hundreds of pages, and I don't want to mark them all as "Don't Publish" because I change individual pages often, but I also don't want them all to be published every time because, 95% of the time, my connection times out before the page I wanted published gets through the queue.

Any ideas? I'm using FrontPage 2000.

You can set FP to publish "Changed Files Only". Use that setting and it will only publish the changed, or new files to your server

I have it set to "Publish Changed Files Only," but it still recognizes every single file as having changed since the last time I published (which was 48 hours ago).

I fixed the problem tonight, but it wasn't easy. First I had to change every files "read-only" attribute from checked to unchecked, then uninstall FrontPage and reinstall, then upload the entire web one MORE time. But everything seems fixed now.
