My 2 cents on Anthony Parsons - 10/10/2004 22:39:01
OK... I'll admit it, this is going to be a glowing recommendation of his services, but here goes...

About a year ago I read a little article on SEO that was highlighted in T's weekly newsletter for Outfront subscribers. The link under the author's name lead to a site run by a man on the other side of the world.

I read his site (some of it anyway :)) bookmarked it and went back to my little world. Over the next few weeks I visited http://search-engine-optimisation.anthonyparsons.com/ (now http://seo.anthonyparsons.com/) and finally took the plunge to part with $49 (US) to have this nameless (and until recently faceless man) tell me what I could do to help my site.

The report came back VERY quickly and I took the time to read through it, implement some of the basic suggestions and researched some of the others.

Well, I recently jumped from an average position on Google of 25 to 30 for "frontpage templates" to top ten. I was as high as 5th, but some site called www.outfront.net is keeping me down! :)

Mr. Parsons, thank you! The investment of $49 has doubled my business! I can't thank you enough!

Nice, but I know where you can do the same thing for free and learn more about HTML, WDT and CSS as well as SEO at the same time. Active participation, being able to ask questions and clarify matters helps no end. You don't have to spend a penny either. Follow the lessons and read the guidelines and your rating's will improve even more. I'd be interested to know if what Cricket teaches is outlined in every aspect through the report you paid for.

Anyway if your serious about SEO take a look at

Nice but it doesn't negate the value of cooper's post. There are times, for some people, when paying a fee to an expert meets their needs.

An astute observation.

"Nice but it doesn't negate the value of cooper's post."

Did I say that it did? However, what 'value' would that be? You do not say what that is so that's rather a in the air statement it could mean anything, what do 'you' mean by value in this context? Until you tell me what your thinking my first thought is you think my post has no value, that I should not have bothered to post my comments... which is most probably not correct, but I don't know, you have not explained yourself.

If you mean the value of telling people about the fact they can get a report about seo from someone the author recommends, to me the value of the report only existed for the week he got it, SEO changes every day never mind every week, you need to evolve along with your site, so you need to know how to do things for yourself, a growing and learning enviromment (no matter whose it is) is the best place to do that and also just because someone charge's for something does not make it better or worst than if someone does not, it just means precisely that, they charge for it, if you will forgive the pun, no more, no less.

For instance I could write and charge you for a report on how to use FrontPage, and while not in the same class as ongoing new knowledge as the subject of SEO is, you would do far better to join the outfront forums, where you will learn new techniques and ways to do things, and being able to ask further questions. There is no subsitute for doing it yourself.

Of course the best of both worlds is to do both. .... ;) As I said I'd be interested to see how they compare.

Tina

OK... let's not bicker over who has the more meaningful post. This was simply a post about a quick report someone ran for me and the investment paid off BIG time for me.

This site is a forum for users of all levels. While the more advanced my feel that have a good handle on SEO, etc. there are several thousand out there who look at banner ads on sites that say "Top Ten on Yahoo... $39, guranteed!" and "Submit your site to 30,000,000,00 search engines for $19.95!".

Anthony's site is well written, well documented and I wanted to let folks know he was professional and his suggestions worked for me. If you feel you know something more on the subject, please post it.

If you want a quick check of your site, compared to three or four of your competitors who seem to have you locked out of a top ten ranking on Google, take a look at Anthony's site. It worked.

Anthony,

I think you got a great value for the buck. AP has some very solid thoughts and can only help, IMHO. However on the flip side of the coin you should try to walk away with knowledge on how and why you site made the jump in the SERPs. I think if you obtained that knowledge, be it a day or a week that it is pertinent, than I think you got an even better deal.

Also you make a VERY valid point on peoples level of skills. What might not make sense to one person another can site from memory. We are all at different levels and it comes back to ROI...which it sounds like you received full value. I would call that a win.

Take care,

Brian

Hey the value post was coming across as arguing about the value of posts which I thought was a bit OTT, so I had to respond to that. Yes the original poster got ahead in the search engines .. we know that he told us... why repeat the fact and in such an obscure way? Totally baffling.

Um did I say I wanted my site(s) checked? If you bothered to read my about page (my pr is a 6 for accessfp.net btw which is not that bad) you will see my fp sites are hobby sites and I'm housewife.. I do sell my pictures but that's a hobby too. I can know about SEO without having applied it (yet) as I'm too busy with other things...I don't have competitor's because that's not what my sites are about, in fact I'm quite likely when answering a frontpage question on my own list to point to another list or forum where I feel they might get a better answer or I will point to sites other than my own where I know they can get some particular info... do you do that on your business site? I will of course promote my site(s) whenever I can I'm not totally lazy about it, but just where if fit's in with what I'm doing, the point of my first post was to inform nothing else.

Oh and it depends what keywords your using when you searched for my site ... depending on what you use it does come in the top ten. If you used the keyword frontpage no it does not, the site template and coding is two years old .... I'm amazed it's got a pr6 (used to be 7 last year) .. that's probably down to backlinks... which should tell you something.

Glad you got something out of the report , my postion on learning for yourself still stands, we will agree to disagree on that point.

Good luck in your business ... end of thread for me.

Tina
