Problem Frontpage switched from IIS to Linux/Apache? - 10/11/2004 1:13:02
I purchased a template years ago which was a Frontpage template I used on an Windows Server ISP. I just switched over to a Linux based ISP which has Front Page extensions installed. However now the web page does not show the page buttons on the left hand margin. Other then that the page looks fine, is there any reason it would not work on a Linux server with Front Page extensions? Page is at.... http://acctgrp.com Thanks, Al

Al Welcome To Outfront Recalculate links on the web, ensure that all FP Includes are present, delete copy on server, and then re-publish. Also, clear out your cache on the local machine HTH

Yes I published the whole web page. Look at the following pages which are ok. http://acctgrp.com/sites.htm http://www.acctgrp.com/jobs.htm Then look at the HOME and Introduction pages which the nav bar is missing. http://acctgrp.com http://acctgrp.com/intro.htm It seems that the links are trying to find a capitalized INTRO.HTM page. Where can I change this. The file is in lower case? I think the lower case and upper case reference is what is hurting me when I moved the web site to a Linux server. All file names are in lower case. Thanks.

Linux/Unix OS differentiates between upper and lower case letters in file and folder names and link references - Windows OS does not. Hence if ever likely to publish to a Linux/Unix server avoid upper case letters in hyperlink refernces, and file and folder names.

Does anyone know if there is a utility that will change file and foldernames to lower case. I have the same problem in moving to a linux server with extensions. My site has >500 files.

Albert - Mediavets is right, Linux/Unix servers are case sensitive - you will need to either recalculate your links so they thaey are all lower case or uppercase (or match the file name) Bigfish - Off the top of my head, no, but if you Google for "Filename Uppercase to Lowercase" you should find what you are looking for HTH
