CDONTS and SMTP - 10/11/2004 11:39:30
I am trying to send mail from a test server before it goes out on the company's production server.

I am using CDONTS for both.

As many posts I cannot get the mail beyond the que on the test server.

This server sits in my personal intranet. It can access the internet via a browser and I can send mail in Outlook Express.

The server also sits behind a firewall. In the TCP\IP setting, the address of the firewall router has to be input in the DNS server in order to get to the internet.

I have tried using the SMTP virtual setup but I don't know if this configuration will get me what I want OR if what I am trying to do will not work.

If I use cdosys all is well on the test server, but I do not have access to an SMTP server at the company's site.

Is it possible to use my intranet test server as a way to send mail, and if so how do I configure the server?

I am not sure if virtual SMTP is for my server or my email providers server or if this is not the answer.

Can anyone get me started?

Thanks

dave

Dave

The Virtual SMTP server on IIS doesn't actually serve any useful purpose for most Web Developers.

You will want to set the SMTP service up though, just to be sure...

Right Click on My COmputer>>Manage>>Expand Services & Applications>>Internet Information Services>>Expand Default Web Site>>Right Click on Default Web>>Properties

Somewhere in there, there is a setting that allows you to set mail servers etc, I can't remember what it is right now, as I don't have IIS installed on this machine.

Found it - continue from above:

Server Extentions>>Options>>Settings

Works as advertised!!

Thanks
