Creating a Transparent GIF - 2/20/2001 23:18:00
I am trying to figure out how to create a 1 pixel x 1 pixel transparent GIF for use on a Web page (used for spacing purposes in a table). I have tried using MS Image Composer but have run into two problems: (1) it will only let me reduce the composition size to 3 x 3; and (2) I can't make it transparent (when I put it on various colored Web pages it always shows up white). I would really like to create one file that I can use for any web page regardless of the background color and not have to create a new gif for each page.

Is there any hope for me?

I use PSP7 so I can't be much help with IC. But, if you can live with the size, when you place the image in FP, click the image, make sure the handles are visible, then click on the Transparent tool at the bottom on the graphics toolbar and make it transparent. It will make it a .gif if is not already. Press resample and then save.

I don't believe IC will let you go smaller than 1X1.

You can also resize the image in FP down to 1X1 by selecting it, hitting Alt Enter and adjusting the size on the Appearance tab.

That's how I do it anyway.

This is how I would do this:
Create a new file in FP and make it 1X1 or if you have already got a file change the image/image size. Then you go to file/
export/gif89aexport and save it. Then open the new gif file and repeat the file/export/gif89aexport but this tile it will ask you what colour you want as transparent.

I hope that is what you are after.

Cheers
Roz
