Best way for thumbnail? - 2/21/2001 23:46:00
I would like to put a portfolio page on my website, where I would have a thumbnail of particular web pages, and you could click on it to get a enlarged picture in a new window.

Now the new window could actually have the files in to bring up a clear picture of the site.

My first thought for the thumbnail would be to do a screen capture and take it into my art program where I would save it as a gif or jpeg...but yuck! I would hope for better resolution than that! I'm compressing at 10% and still a large file size.

Anyone have a better way?

You should just size the screen capture down to thumbnail size..put it on your page and link to the actual web site. Is there a reason you're trying to link to a picture of the site instead of the real thing?

You have to convert the screen capture to a jpeg, right? I am trying to link to a picture of the site because if someone is viewing a portfolio, I thought most would want to get the basic feel of what I had to offer without whisking them away off your website.

My strategy was to offer the viewer 2 options: to see an enlarged picture or they could also have the option of going to the actual site and click through all the pages if they wanted.

Personally, I'd rather see the site in action...no fun if the buttons don't work..or the Swish doesn't swish...or the mouseovers don't "over". Yes, save it as a .jpg but just a thumbnail size one....link it to the actual website but have it open in a new window..so they haven't actually *left* your site.

Can't see how you could get a screen size "picture" down to a decent size.
