Sizing background graphics - 2/21/2001 23:54:00
I can bring in a background graphic, but I can't get it to properly size to the page, in fact, I don't know the page size because there doesn't seem to be any property for page size.

How do I determine the page size I am creating?

How do I size a graphic to fit the FrontPage Normal and Web window?

How do I get the Normal and web window to show the same thing?

Alternately, I can import the graphic and size it to the window, but I can't make it go to the back, behind the text.

I'll take either way. I just want to get this thing together and onto the site.

Thank you,

David

Different resolutions play a big role in this. First you must decide which resolution you wish to disply your page in. Whether it be for 640x480, 800x600 or higher. Here is sort of a general rule of thumb. For a resolution of 640 by 480 you can make a BG about 594 pixels wide by however long you are going to make the page or window. Keep in mind though, the bigger the picture the bigger the file size of that picture. Now if you are just wanting to achieve a textured look and can create a small pattern that will intergrate gracefully in your page, this is better. It will tile and if you create it carefully, no one will ever know it is very small. Different size monitors also play a role.
It is difficult to make a generic site that will match every combination of monitor and resolution. So try to keep a happy balance somewhere in the middle. This is why you see so many sites that all the graphics are centered in the middle of the site with room on both sides. So the site can shrink or grow to fit most combinations of monitors and resolutions.

Hope this long revitation was not too confusing and in some way answered your question.
