Web Videos - 10/15/2004 17:44:14
I have a web page on my website dedicated to videos that are sent in. But after i have put them on the site under web components>advanced controls>plugin lots of people are coming to me saying that they cant view lots of them. Is there something I am doing wrong or is there some piece of software etc that I should be advising them to use.
I haven't had any problems on either my laptop or desktop viewing them.

Many apologies, I have removed the no right click script.
I have checked with all the people that have commented and they have broadband. I have a a 3mb broadband connection and they all play very quickly. What I would like realy like is for them to play the videos with their own media player but cant find a way of doing it, that way I wouldn't have to create a whole new page for each video.( I assume ! )
While we're at it I wouldn't mind a critique of the site if you've got a couple of spare minutes.
Before you say it though, I haven't been able to find a decent alternative to the scrolling marquees that I have. I would love a better script if you know where to get one.

I had a similar problem with one of my sites. Some people could see the video clip - other couldn't. Turned out that the common factor was the latest version of Norton Anti Virus. I think it defaults to blocking video clips.

Thanks for that, but how did you get around the problem, as I said I would prefer it if they could just click on link then it open up in their own media player but nobody seems to be able to tell me how other sites do it.

Err.. I didn't. I managed to persuade my client not to have the video (it did nothing for the site anyway).
I'd check and make sure Norton AV is the cause first before you go any further. I suppose a solution would be to offer a "Right Click to Download" option but you've probably already thought of that!!.
