At what point do you just give up? - 10/16/2004 4:55:31
I'm unsure if this belongs here in the Business section or in the Software and Hardware section, but this also relates to my questions recently asked in the Software section of this site.
I've now six different browsers loaded into my computer, to check how my four websites look and function in them. I'm also setting up a checklist for each of these browsers for future client sites i'll design and I have a few questions on how other businesses approach some things:
- When checking a client's website in different browsers and screen resolutions, at what point do you give up and say "not many people use that browser/screen resolution anyway"?
- What browsers and in what order do you care/not care if the website looks/functions okay?
- Do you provide your clients with a checklist upon site completion, stating that all components have been tested and comply/work with the main browsers and screen resolutions as I'm intending to do?
The browsers i now have loaded are IE, Mozilla, Netscape, Firefox, MSN Explorer and Netscape.

When do I say, phttt, stuff it? NN4 probably. It's a nice idea to provide a kind of Quality Assessment list, but I would also include a short note to explain what browser compatibility means to the punters.
When developing I get it right in the standards compliant FF/Opera first, then adjust for IE flavours and then look at the rest.
Resolutions? I try to get it reasonable across the board; 640x although decreasing is also useful for guessing what PDA's and other very small screens pick up.
