Link bar styles in front page 2003 - 10/16/2004 12:23:50
At present I'm using one of the link bar styles in front page 2003.

I'd like to create my own style (e.g a picture with a grey box with the writin inside)

Is there a simple way to create a custom style for these link bars?

If there is a step by step guide on how to do this I dont mind how complex it is.

Thanks everyone

You can "use own picture" for the link bars.

When you select what link bar to use, just select custom linkbar, or use own picture. Not sure exactly what the wording of it is, but that is where you go to change it.

When I right click on my link bar I can go into link properties

Double click on the link bar. I thought there was a way you can specify the theme of linkbar to use.

You can also modify the template for the page too. I know for sure you can edit the linkbars for that.

double clicking just brings me to the link bar proerties box.

I've checked it out there is no way to make customs on the link properties box.

Any other methods or ideas
and how do I Edit the page template

(I dont want to affect the body or title background theme)

I don't have FP on this computer at school, but have you tried to modify the theme for the page?

You can edit the graphic for the linkbar. Also, if you can post some screenshots that might make it easier to figure out.

Ok, here is a place that tells you what to do.

http://www.johngaltstools.com/learn/fp/edit04.asp#custom

I have to run to class now, but the above link should answer your question.

Unfortunately that website only explains how to change to one of microsofts ownstyles.

I was modifying a certain them but there seems to be no place to modify graphical styles

Ps im using Frontpage 2003

- That link shows you how to create your own custom style.

Unfortunately that website only explains how to change to one of microsofts ownstyles.
- It tells you how to create your own custom style... not just ones from MS only..

What exactly am I missing here?

Am i looking at something wrong,

No where on that page does it say how to put your own picture into the link bar it only tells you how to select either the theme's one or a premade one.

Do I have to create my own theme ANd them move it into there?

If you want to add a link bar style, you can create a new theme by selecting a theme, and going to Save As. Save it as whatever you want, then edit the picture for the link bar style.

Then your custom link bar will be shown on the link bar menu.

First off you'll find most of the information you need is available in FP2003 Help. See graphic below.

Thumbnail Image
:)

I did a quick search through there and it came back with this....

quote:

Change the graphics used in a theme

On the Format menu, click Theme.

In the Theme task pane point to the thumbnail for the theme you want to change, and then click the arrow.

Click Customize, and then click Graphics.

In the Item list, select the graphical element you want to change.

Next to Theme graphic set, specify whether you want to change graphics in the normal or active set.

Locate and select the picture or pictures you want to use, and then click Open.

If the graphical element you selected displays text, the options on the Font tab will be available and you can change the font.

Repeat steps 4 through 6 for each graphical element you want to change.

You can choose not to have a graphic defined for any element by removing the text from the edit box.

Click OK and then click Save as.
Type a new name for the theme (unless you have changed a custom theme), and then click OK.
Note When you modify a preset theme, you must save your changes as a new theme.

Thanks

But the problem is that I dont know which Theme graphic set to customize (step 5 of the help wizard).
I created the link bar using INSERT - NAVIGATION... - INSERT LINK BAR.

I can change the link link bar style to something microsoft has made by right clicking on the link bar and going to link bar properties - styles.

If I edit the theme it doesnt seem to change the link bar style,
Which Theme graphic set should I change for it to edit the link bar style?

Format>Theme

You should get a box pop up on the right hand side which will tell you at the top which theme you've got as your site theme and which is the default.

Down at the bottom you have the option to create a completely new theme from scratch.

even if i create my own theme I cant change the grapich of the link bar style..

If I right click on link bar > link bar properties > styles I get a list of choices of styles , I want to have a choice there that is my own. Editing the theme doesnt seem to let me do this.

Ok It worked!

Basically now I've got the pictures I want in the link bar but...

It's hard to see the text on top of them

Is there anyway I can change the text Font?
or even better Can I get the text to be to the side of the picture?

THanks alot for all the help

Font, size, colour, yes, you'll need to hunt around in the theme modifier. It can be done but it can look really messy.

As for putting the text to one side, I don't think there's an easy way with themes but I've not looked at them for a long time.
