search function not working - 10/17/2004 4:29:09
my friend has a laptop, clean install win xp. search function worked fine then installed the drivers and programmes that came on the HP disks (it's a compaq laptop with an HP sticker on it) and now search does't work. the search criteria come up but when i press search, the programme crashes every time. haven't upgraded to SP2 yet but it did this before when it had sp2 - any ideas?

also the AMD athlon chip still shows thw rong speed in the stystem properties - it's supposed to be 3GHz or something and shows at 970GHz. the laptop just came back from HP with a new motherboard

If the laptop is still under warranty then talk to HP. There may be a problem with the processor. This may also be the reason that Win XP isn't working properly. HP may ask about the Bios revision and there may be a need to flash it to the latest revision. If the Motherboard was changed for the system crashing then the fault hasn't been resolved, so quote the previous ref. number when talking to HP.
