Text Not Sharp - 3/19/2001 20:28:00
My 14 year old son designed a logo for a web site I’m building (using one of your templates). The logo was built in Image Composer, which is the only graphics program we’ve really used so far. The words in white circling the logo are not as sharp as I would like them to be. The logo was built to the right size, so the words didn’t get blurry because it was resized. Is there a graphics program (besides PhotoShop, too expensive for what is little more than a hobby for us) available that will produce small curved text that is sharper than what I ended up with? If you want to look, the logo is in the upper left corner of http://www.jmward.com/proof.htm. Thanks
Michael

First off, kudos to your 14 year old for designing such a nice, clean logo! I notice that it was saved in the .jpg format. This format tends to leave artifacts that can make an image, especially one with fine detail like a logo, fuzzy. Just what you're seeing in your logo. Saving as a .gif image will eliminate this, although I'm afraid it won't repair or improve the .jpg you now have. Keep in mind that the .gif format limits you to 256 colors, which usually is not a problem for logos, but can do nasty things to photographs. You need to pick and choose when to use which format.

You might want to look into PaintShopPro from JASC (www.jasc.com) which does about 90% of what Photoshop does for about $100. You can download a trial version and play with it for 30 days.

Thanks. I should have known that. I've made the gif vs jpeg choice before. Don't know what I was thinking.

I used to wonder where my brain went. I know now it went to my son. I guess there's some comfort in that.

Wow! Is your son available for hire

Unless you've redone this logo do fix the problem, I honestly don't think it's bad at all. In fact, it's clearer than a lot of junk you see on so-called professionally designed sites!
