upgraded to FP2003 and cant use it - 10/22/2004 0:38:04
I hope this is the right place...

I have been using fp2003 for my website for some time now, and it works great. I am taking over another website that has been maintained with fp2000. When I load it into fp2003 it won't allow me to do anything.:)

I've tried it on 2 machines with fp2003 and it won't work, tried it on 2 machines with fp2000 and it works.

Verizon (our host) just keeps replying that it works fine for them.:)

Any Ideas?

Which settings? I have tried everything I can think of, searched the help files and I'm still stuck.

Thanks
Brian

What exactly isnt happening?
If you cant open the site at all, try the "Open Web" addin from www.jimcoaddins.com

The web will load into fp2003, I can download it to the computer, but when I move the mouse over the page I get an international no symbol and can't do anything. I even tried editing html and it won't allow me to save changes either.

Thanks,
Brian

Hmmm .. ... NEVER seen that before :-)
Can you take a small screen shot and post it here? :)

Have you tried FP > help > detect and repair?

I tried detect and repair - and - recalculate hyperlinks all to no avail. I can leave a screenshot but it won't show the cursor. the bottom line is that I can open all the pages in 2003 but cant make or save any changes. It won't even allow me to edit any part of the page, I just get the "no" symbol for a cursor.

I can go back to fp2000 and everything works fine. But I prefer to work with fp2003.

thanks,
Brian

New one on me but I have noticed that the import web feature that used to work on 2000 doesn't on 2003.

How have you brought this site in? If you used FP to bring it down from the web, try using an ftp client to download it and then open it up in 2003.

OK...
I usually do updates live on the server, but I did try importing the web onto my computer with the same results. I just tried using ftp to move a page onto my computer and the results are the same, I still can't edit anything.

Our website is www.sherwoodnewlife.org if someone wants to try importing a page and giving it a shot...

I have another website that I take care of and it worked fine after the upgrade, that is why this is so frustrating. Verizon has told me that it is not a hosting problem and must be a software issue, and I am currently working with Microsoft to solve the problem, so far no luck...

I appreciate all the help,
Thanks,
Brian

pb,

Ouch!

I usually do updates live on the server - wrong
I did try importing the web onto my computer - wrong
I just tried using ftp to move a page onto my computer - wrong

Publishing (up and down) in FrontPage are the only correct methods of moving files between local drive and host server (and vice versa). Period. Your problems center on the above, not FP versions.

If you need help with one or both methods, let us know.

Well Larry,

Thanks for letting me know that everything I have tried to do is wrong, maybe you could tell what would be the right thing to do... or maybe you haven't read the previous posts... WRONG!!!!

Frontpage is not allowing me to do what you are telling me to do.... WRONG!!!!

How about some real help?

Brian

I figured it out on my own by playing with the program...

The pages were trying to attach to a Dynamic Web Template that didn't exist on the server, I detached them and they now work fine.

Thanks to everyone who tried to help

Brian

Hey Brian,

Thanks for that. It seems a bit odd though that you didn't get any warnings just a "no go".

Larry,

I've been ftping sites up and down for ages with no problems.
