Firefox extension problems - 10/27/2004 0:39:04
Downloaded v. 1.0 to a new computer. I can't get the extensions to work at all. Flash 7 won't even load and play. I've tried downloading some extensions from the website which are suppose to be updated for v. 1.0. Nothing works. Where do I go from here.? It looks like I can no longer download v. 9 or I would. I loved it! This box is running XP without the sp2 loaded yet. Thanks,

Thanks Dan. That did it! I appreciate the help. I have another problem.....iv.1.0 doesn't play at all with Adobe 6.0 reader. Everytime I bring something up in Adobe it kills FF. Anyone else having this problem?

You have to make sure that you have Reader 6.02 and do this by launching the reader and checking for updates. I find that the Reader still won't launch in the browser - you just get a blank page, but if you right click the link and save it instead ( I save it to the desktop for speed ) then that works. I think that the problem lies with Adobe, rather than Firefox but no doubt all will be corrected for the 1.0 release ( 9th November, last time I looked).

Thanks Dan and Caz. Uninstalled and reinstalled updated Adobe (v6.02) and it seems to work. Did the same with Flash 7.0 which was giving me a problem and it is now working also. Caz, the Adobe v.6.02 is loading in FF for me. You might try uninstalling, downloading and updating again. Maybe Adobe has adjusted....

caz, Our computer classroom (14 Windows, 5 Macs) is running with FF 1.0 PR. Adobe Reader 6 opens our club newsletter. I have a slightly different set up at home where it opens with Adobe Acrobat 6 Pro (not the reader) in the browser. Before you spend more time on the Internet and accumulate malware, apply SP2 a.s.a.p. for your new computer's security. Even now, I would suggest that you scan with Spybot Search & Destroy or Ad-aware before applying SP2.

It was with a great deal of difficulty that I finally got the Reader to open pdf's off the web, rather than the full Acrobat program stepping in. I like to see what my users are getting when testing. The one good move made by Adobe recently has been to change the name " Adobe Acobat Reader" to just " Adobe Reader"...goes some way towards preventing confusion. Cheers Carol

I never have liked the integration of Adobe products into browsers because of this exact problem...but then again, that's just me I have Adobe Acrobat 6 Pro, therefore no need for the reader (I also have 5 somewhere)... The only thing it doesn't really intefere with when upgrading is M$ products...(go figure)
