moondawg, You've come to the right place. Either click on the Spooky Login link at the left, or the link below. http://www.outfront.net/spooky/login.htm

I'm in the dark on how to use this. What I am trying to do is create a simple login page for a members page for a club. Any help would be nice.

Okay - to the 30 or so people that have emailed me - I will answer you all at once here. Any questions - let me know. 1. Open Front Page. 2. Goto File - Open Site (Not OPEN) 3. Enter the name of your site http://www.mysite.com 4. Enter user name and pass - click OK 5. Just click Open - or choose a page to open. The goal is to get to the page "Live" - note you are now connected directly to your server - any changes will be immediate! 6. Goto Tools - Server - Admin Home - now a new webpage opens up after you enter user name and pass - this is your user name and pass that you publish with. 7. Scroll to the bottom - click on create a subweb (NOTE your server must support subwebs!!!) 8. Enter the name of your subweb - this will be only the name of the subweb, ie - "privatearea" - on the net it will be accessed by going to http://www.mysite.com/privatearea/ 9. Click on use unique permissions for this web - enter in admin and pass. 10. Scroll back down and click on the subweb that you created. 11. The user name and password is the username and password that you created for the subweb - not for the publishing. 12. Click on change Anonymous access settings - set it to off. 13. Click on manage users - now you can add user names and passwords that will be used to enter that private area. Save your settings - publish your web and promote the site - your done! Hope this helps!

I'll bet many of the 115 readers have copied the text and will try later. Be patient. And not all will ever thank you. That's just the way it is.

I appreciate the help. When I open file, I don't see OPEN SITE. I see OPEN WEB. I'm guessing that is the same. When I open it I get " Open Webs" box. The site is not there The path is C:/documets/myweb/index.htm. When I enter the file name I get file cannot be found although I have it in my Docs file under "my web" I'm trying to see why this is so. Thanks for help and have saved the steps you provided. I finally got to the live web part. FP opened up to the site and no files are found. I tried to create a folder and I got a error message saying Your server cannot complete your request. I've been using Tripod.com. I inquired about this to them but never got a reply. I'm thinking it's not going to happen with them.

Hi there, I tried to follow your instructions but get stuck on No 6. I opened a 'live' page but do not have the facility to see Server by going to Tools. Does this mean that my ISP doesn't allow subweb on the server?

It's sharing among members such as your post that makes this forum work so well. Whether it works for me or not, we all (those of us who visited http://www.seals-ambulance.com ) know it works for you. Thanks again!

I finally figured it out. It seems that the host I use, Tripod doesn't support this. In order for me to have a login page the people who want to view this page have to be Tripod users. I was told this by them. So what I did was use this http://www.free-cgi.com/freecgi/password/index.asp I created a page from a forum my club uses. They give you ad free web space. I had the CGI p/w protect it. It was a round about way but I got the results I wanted. Thanks again for the help. Even though I couldn't use it, it was good to learn how. Here is my site. http://scrcmv.com

I followed this a few times and when I click the link or enter it I get the 403 error message. I have my admin name and a username. They both get the same results. Why?

Is this an unanswerable question or should I rephrase it?

Thanks for a reply. I did ask my host. I asked about using the Spooky but they said I was on a Linux and needed to be on the MS Host. I use 1and1.com. With this being said, does this mean I can't use the above method with Linux?
