Forms & FP Extensions error - 11/1/2004 9:44:02
Hi all,

I have my site hosted by a fairly major ISP in Australia. They run FP extensions.

I have designed a very simple form in FP2003. Every time I publish in FP I get the following message:
"The following pages in your website contain dynamic FrontPage components, such as a search form or a FrontPage form handler. They will not work because the server you are publishing to does not have the FrontPage Server Extensions or Sharepoint Services installed"

Sometimes it works (sort of) and sometimes it doesn't.

I have sent countless emails to TPG (my ISP) and the typical respose I get is "It works for me" - I love support!

The other night the form was working, except (this is the sort of) that it was not showing my success.htm (saying that the form has posted successfully), instead I was getting another "your server does not have FP extensions....message" However, it was emailing the form information to me.

I am publishing using FP. Could FP be doing something that is "corrupting" the FP extensions? Or, more likely could I be doing something that is corrupting the FP extensions.

I don't really understand what the FP extensions are except that they are a pain in the a#$e when it comes to forms!

Any info or direction to somewhere so that I can inderstand what these "extensions" are and how they work would be appreciated.

The site is www.netsmark.com.au and the form is www.netsmark.com.au/contactus/sales_contact_form.htm

Cheers
Mark

It looks like you're using FP '03 ?

I would confirm with your host that they have the proper (updated) extensions installed, and configured.

I've run into similar issues going from 2002 to 2003... an email to the host was all it took to rectify the problem.

(and while it might be a pain, you can always switch hosting companies if these folks can't get it right...)

Hi Bobby,

When I asked the ISP re" the extensions, they replied " We are using the latest version of FrontPage - 2003 SR1.1. "

I know I can change, but they are a good host (generally) although after all this (it has been going on for weeks/months) I have started lookng around,

Cheers

Mark

Youngster,

www.netsmark.com.au may be running FrontPage extensions, but they aren't installed on your site.

This will end the finger pointing: go to http://www.dnswiz.com/fptype.htm

Hi Mark,

As Larry mentioned, this seems to be an extension problem.

Although this may not solve the problem, I have seen sporadic results from FP forms when contained in a folder or subweb. You might have better success with your form page in the root web.

I would try this first.

If that doesn't work... try re-Publishing the page and see if it helps...

My webmaster has created a new webspace for me so I have published to a brand new area.

Hopefully, no more problems.

Thanks for all your help.

I was too quick...:)

Since the re-publishing of my site (I won't go into all the problems)

When my site re-published – some of the Navigation Headings were showing black when they should have been white – others were showing correctly (about 50/50 - it seemed to me that all the pages that were in the root directory were showing incorrectly, and all the pages in sub-directories were showing correctly). This seems very strange because all my formatting is in one external CSS file (I do not use embedded styles or in-line styles) and the Nav bar is an include

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks
Mark
