FP form submit issue - server side? - 11/7/2004 7:53:25
I am in the middle of a site redo and have loaded one page, which is a form, so that I could check for functionality, etc.
I used matt's formmail and have checked and rechecked that mail path, the formmail script, etc.
On trying to submit this form, I receive the infamous "this page is not available" and this page has "/_derived/nortbots.htm " at the end of the http address.
Asked the new hosting co about this, and their answer was "... there is no 'derived' folder on our server'"
Is this a fp exts problem, or has anybody else run into this? Any help would be most appreciate... I'm kinda at a dead end.
Thanks!

are you mixing a matt script in with an FP form?

Yes.
I first did it as formmail.cgi and the hosting techy asked me to do it as a .pl, which I did.
Thanks for your help.

Take a look here: http://www.frontpagewebmaster.com/m-198770/mpage-1/key-Matt%252CFormmail/tm.htm#198770

Unfortunatley, you can't mix FPSE and CGI on the same page - one will cancel out the other, rendering both useless

Ok. Hosting co told me just to make sure that it was vers. 1.9 or later - am using vers. 1.92. Am I doing something wrong on this?
I simply did the fp form and put in the cgi-bin/formmail.pl path on the form properties menu.
How should I be doing this?
Thanks.

If you could post the coding for the form page, I can give you an answer

This form (in its rough state) can be found at http://www.jazzseries.com/join-us1.htm

Thanks again for your help on this.
Do you want me to cut and paste the code from the html view?

Susie

The problem is with the Perl (.pl) file used to process the form

Hi, Dan: Thanks again for your help on this.
Here's my formmail.pl... I've checked my @recipeints, mail path in the form, and the sendmail for this hosting co. (I hope you're not going to keel over because i included all this stuff...)

To be honest susie, I'd ditch that....

I use this one

<?
// DO NOT MESS WITH THESE TWO LINES
$subject_array = array();
$recipient_array = array();
///////////////////////////////////
$this_script = "contact.php";
// The name of THIS file, if you change it.
// Edit only what's between the quotation marks in the below lines.
// These will be the subjects that your users can choose from
// You can have as many as you want.
// Each one must be set up like so:
// $subject_array[] = "What You Want This Choice To Be";
// Make sure to remove empty ones that you aren't using. Just delete the entire line.
$subject_array[] = "Message Subject 1";
$subject_array[] = "Message Subject 2";
$subject_array[] = "Message Subject 3";
$subject_array[] = "Message Subject 4";
$subject_array[] = "Message Subject 5";
// Edit only what's between the quotation marks in the below lines.
// These lines contain the various people that can be contacted via your form.
// You can have as many as you want.
// Each one must be set up like so:
// $recipient_array["UNIQUE Short Name"] = "email@email.com";
// The "UNIQUE Short Name" will be shown in the select box.
// This allows the actual email address to be hidden from the user.
// Make sure to remove empty ones that you aren't using. Just delete the entire line.
$recipient_array["You"] = "dummy@dummy.com";

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
// Do Not Edit Below Here Unless You Know What You Are Doing
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
if ($_POST["send"] == "true") {
    $to = $_POST["to"];
    $name = $_POST["name"];
    $email = $_POST["email"];
    $the_subject = $_POST["subject"];
    $message = $_POST["message"];

    if (($name == "") OR ($email == "") OR ($message == "")) {
   print ("<div id=\"sectionContent\">");
   print ("<span style=\"color: red;\">One of the fields was left blank. Please put something in all fields.</span><br /><br />");
   print ("</div><br />");
   email_form();
    } elseif (ereg("([[:alnum:]\.\-]+)(\@[[:alnum:]\.\-]+\.+)", $email)) {
   $recipient = $to;
   $subject = $the_subject;
   $additional_headers = ("From: $email\n");
   $body = ("Name: $name\nEmail: $email\n\nMessage:\n\n" . $message);
   if (mail($recipient, $subject, $body, $additional_headers)) {
       print ("<div id=\"sectionContent\">");
       print ("The Mail was sent successfully to $recipient.<br /><br />");
       print ("</div><br />");
   } else {
       print ("<div id=\"sectionContent\">");
       print ("<font color=\"red\">There Was An Error Sending Your Message, Please Try Again</font><br><br>");
       print ("</div><br />");
       $send = "false";
       email_form();
   }
    } else {
   print ("<div id=\"sectionContent\">");
   print ("<font color=\"red\">That email address does not appear to be valid. Please try again.</font><br><br />");
   print ("</div><br />");
   $send = "false";
   email_form();
    }
} else {
    print ("<div id=\"sectionContent\">");
    print (".<br /><br />");
    print ("</div><br />");
    email_form();
}

function email_form()
{
    global $subject_array, $recipient_array, $this_script, $PHP_SELF;

    print ("<div id=\"sectionContent\">");
    print ("<form METHOD=POST action=\"$PHP_SELF\">\n");
    print ("<input type=\"hidden\" name=\"send\" value=\"true\">\n");
    print ("<select name=\"to\">\n");
    foreach ($recipient_array as $key => $value) {
   print ("<option value=\"" . $value . "\">" . $key . "</option>\n");
    }
    print ("</select><br><br>\n");
    print ("Name:<br><input type=\"text\" name=\"name\"><br /><br />\n");
    print ("Your Email Address:<br>\n");
    print ("<input type=\"text\" name=\"email\" size=\"40\"><br /><br />\n");
    print ("<select name=\"subject\">\n");
    foreach ($subject_array as $value2) {
   print ("<option value=\"" . $value2 . "\">" . $value2 . "</option>\n");
    }

   print ("</select><br /><br />\n");
    print ("Your Message:<br />\n");
    print ("<textarea cols=\"50\" rows=\"5\" name=\"message\"></textarea><br /><br />\n");
    print ("<input type=\"submit\" value=\"Submit\">  \n");
    print ("<input type=\"reset\" value=\"Reset Fields\">\n");
    print ("</form>\n");
    print ("</div>");
}
?>

It doesn't open up any security holes, and is very easy to modify:) It's also better commented than Matt Wrights coding....

Thanks, Dan!
Can I just do a copy and Paste in wordpad, change the "reipient" etc., and load it as contact.php in the cgi-bin?
Sorry to sound like an idiot.
Thanks.

Susie

Just copy it over into notepad where you want the contact form to appear

You can change recipient, Subjects etc

And it doesn't need to be put anywhere special to work, see: http://www.giomanach.com/contact.php for a working example:)
