White background - 6/13/2001 20:23:00
In addition to Photodraw, I also use Ulead graphics....is there anyway to save a graphic for web use in the JPEG without the white background?

If you are talking about a transparent bg it would have to be a gif. You can make a jpg background any color you want.

Unfortunately, Photodraw turns a graphic into a .gif when I change the background color. .gif graphics look grainy. It there a better graphics editor software?

Hi,Rule of thumb #1 for saving graphics: Save as jpg if the graphic is a photo or uses gradients. Save as gif if graphic has blocks of solid color and text or text graphics. Having said that - there's no such thing as a transparent jpg. You can, however, give the jpg it's own background that is the color of the table cell or page it will reside in - giving it the look of transparency. Here is a thread asking about the use of Photodraw and whether or not you should change programs: http://www.frontpagewebmaster.com/ubb/Forum10/HTML/000516.html Marr

Probably the easiest way is to simply use your selection tool (magic wand etc) to select the background color. If the software you're using allows you to feather the selection, I would add a slight feather so the fill on the edges is not harsh. Then fill the selected color. If the software you are using supports layers, it is somewhat easier but no matter what, you must select the portion you wish to fill or the portion you wish to keep.
