Could not find web server at "" on port 80. - 11/12/2004 11:32:06
I just got a brand new computer that runs on windows xp. My old computer was running on windows 98. Anyhow, I'm working on a website that has been created using frontpage. The websites server is my old computer. I get the website to open through the company network on my new computer, but I want to move the whole website and server to my new computer so I don't have to worry about the old computer any longer. I was told by someone to create a new website on the new computer and publish the website to this new website and that should save all my files and navigation onto my new computer. First of all will this work? If not what do I do. Secondly, when I try to create a new website on my new computer I get the error message : Coule not find web server on "my computer name" on port 80. Please check to make sure the web server name is valid and your proxy settings are set correctly. If you are sure that everything is correct, the web server may be temporarily out of service. So how do I fix this problem? Is my web server not set up correctly, and how do I set it up correctly so my computer can be a server for my website. Thanks

Laura :)

Welcome To Outfront

You friend is right about being able to publish down to the new PC.

But, before I can give any real answers...could you tell me:

1) If PWS was installed on the Windows 98 machine
2) How you have set-up the network
3) Version of FP

Thanks:)

Problem is I don't really know much of the specifics about computers. I don't know if PWS was installed on the Windows 98 machine, how would I figure that out. The network is a network at work called Unity with all the workers set up on it. I didn't set it up, someone else did. And I tried adding the component IIS to my computer because someone said to do that to have a server on my computer, but as you can tell, I don't know what I'm really doing. Everything had been set up on my old computer already and it all just worked. I don't know if I have to do anything with IIS to set it up. Also, I went back to the adding IIS component and also added FTP and now when I try to make a new website I get the error Server error: Cannot open file "frontpg.lck" for writing.
