JPEG image trojan found - 11/14/2004 16:36:08
Nov 30, 2004 PC Mag has an article about a recent discovery of a trojan found in jpg files. "When the jpg that has the trojan is viewed it (the trojan) is downloaded and executed. Currently the code does not propagate, infecting only the machine the jpeg is viewed on. The trojan allows the victim's machine to be controlled remotely." The vulnerability is a buffer owerflow flaw in the JPEG parsing enjine contained in the file GDIPlus.DLL, a file that is used by the operating system and a great many applications. The article goes on to mention that Windows XP Service Pack 2 is not vulnerable to the current crop of exploiting JPEG's
