I prefer to use Excel as a database in FP rather than Access. I have several such Excel DBs and up until now have had no problems working with them and DRW.

The Excel DB I am now developing contains a couple of fields of text which are longer than 254 characters. In some cases considerably longer. All of the characters display in the Excel cell, but when the results are displayed on the website only the first 254 characters show up. Since Excel does not have a format for "memo" the cell is formatted as "text".

One work around for this problem is break up the long field into several shorter ones (254 characters) and then recombine them on the results page on the website but this is a bit of a pain.

Is there anyway to redefine the field type to "memo" within FP?

A second question: Is there a way to create a hyperlink field that will display as clickable link when displayed on the website results page? What would I have to put in an Excel cell to have it display as a hyperlink on the website?

Not sure I can help with your first question as FP 2000 does not truncate the cell's contents as you are experiencing. However, if you want to post the code that displays the results, we'll take a closer look. As for displaying hyperlinks, just enter the full URL in the Excel cell. Then, in your results region, right-click the field that is supposed to be a link. It will look like this:

<<yourlink>>

Choose "Hyperlink". Click the Parameters button. Delete everything in the box labeled, "Path". Then click the, "Insert Field Value" button and choose the field that contains the link. Click OK a couple of times and that should be it.

Thanks for the help with hyperlinks. I've decided it was easier to convert my Excel database to Access and take advantage of the memo field. It worked just fine.
