Your opinion please - 11/18/2004 12:28:21
Hi all,

Can you look over this new clients site and let me know if you think it is easy to follow & if you have any problems. Does anything confuse you?

It has been in the works for about 2 years with numerous improvements. I think we have all the major issues taken care of.

Thanks
Erin

I thought that this:
Service Finders is free and easy for consumers, being underlined was a link to start searching but eventually realised that the top box was the right place start to the process. Maybe that area needs to be more prominent, with the "Welcome..." not quite so emphasised?

I like the flash logo, very understated and an example of sensible flash use to all; spoilt by the marquee which to my mind was the reason I missed the search box - my attention was distracted straightaway and the Welcome message took over from there.

Then again, maybe I am just too gullible:):)

I'm afraid I agree with Carol about the Marquee.

And umm, have you looked at the site in Firefox? It disappears out the right hand side. :)

I agree on marquee, however clients seems to like it.

Client has taken over design at this point and is making changes & we handled programming. I am letting him know about this problem. Client says able are set to = 100 so I am not sure why this is acting up.

Any other feedback is appreciated.

main text is a little on the large size for my preference - but better that way than too small!

Erin,

I thought I was losing it for a minute but I think I've found the problem.

If I view the site from your link in FF then it's too wide.

I downloaded the source, viewed it using various browsers on localhost and it's fine.

What's the difference?

I don't have the graphics, only placeholders.

It's either one of the pictures escaping or it's a padding/border/margin IE/FF conflict.

That is same problem I am seeing Jaybee. I can even do one better - when I am in Firefox if I click f5 - sometimes it is viewed ok - other times it is way you describe.

Have not been able to figure out why:).

Text is a little big - but client wants that.

Erin

Can't find anything that would cause the problem, but you may want to change the Character Set:

From
quote:

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">

To
quote:

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">

Allows users of other languages to view the web better (and allows for better translations via bablefish etc:))

Try reducing the Trip Finders logo. It's 183px wide in a cell set to 178 px.

This will be tried soon.

Any other comments?

Do you consider pricing good? Is site informative? As a consumer would you use it?

I wouldn't use it because I'm not US based but it looks OK for those who are.

If you select a state that has not been activated you get stuck on the next page with a message in the drop-down. It ought to list the available states.

"Sorry Service Finders is not " it says in the heading when you click continue. :)

Page back wasn't working but that may be FF as there is a similar problem on this forum.

Prices seem OK to me.

It could do with a copywriter as there are grammatical mistakes, words missing etc.

Easy to use once the State selection problem has been sorted out.

After I'd got stuck by selecting a non-functioning state, the page back link at the top of the page wouldn't take me anywhere.

But as I'm using FF1 and several of us on here are finding that the browser back button doeasn't take us back a page in the forum, it may just be you don't have a problem and FF does.

hi erin,
just from a design point, the text in the link bars (gifs) on the left of the first page look like they can't decide whether to be justified right, left or center
it may be intentional but I guess we are all used to a set format, which is probably more of a reflection of us than design...

with the marquee, how about trying it in flash since you already have it on the page?
