Need help from non-U.S. Outfronters - 11/18/2004 18:56:28
This is more an ad review than a site review. I wasn't sure whether I should post this here or at the Business Board.

Some background.

When in Ireland last March, I visited my own website. Surprisingly, a good number of Google ads - more than I found acceptable - came in as public service ads. Not really what I want (no contextural ads = no $). This was most likely because there were not enough advertisers in that region at the time who offered products to match the page content.

If you have the time and inclination, can you please visit a few pages in the site and let me know if they are standard Google ads or public service ads. This will help me determine where to spend advertising dollars.

thanks so very much!

Gail, your link is wrong. You forgot the .com on the end.

Home page - 4 ads all Digital Photography related
Buying Tips - 2 ads Digital cameras and Which review of cameras
Digicam features - 4 ads on Digital Cameras
Digital Camera Care - 4 ads with accessories, cleaning cloths etc
Taking Pictures - 4 ads Photo printing services
Working with images - 2 ads for Adobe design and Photo edit software
Learn - 5 ads mixed but all to do with photography

I don't think you have a problem :)

I get text/content related ads all the way through the web

I also get Public Services ads now and then, as does Outfront...

Lord knows where they come from:)

Hey!

I'm in Ireland and had a quick look around....

The first ad I saw was a public service one but randomly cliking around the site showed that the rest were camera related ads....

Most of them were not aimed at Ireland as such - more .co.uk addresses but it works well enough...

The only thing I would have a look at is that there doesn't seem to be a continuity in displaying the ads, some are along the left with pink headers, othes are blue, some are on the left with blue or in boxes, one was along the top which looked like it broke the shape of the page..... I would at least have a uniform color if not size and position for the ads.... But that's just my humble opinion....

Other than that the site is very clean and fast loading!

Hmmm, do you (or any others) think the ads should be uniform throughout the site? Since I use only google ads, I thought some variety in placement and color would be necessary, but I can be very wrong about that.

Do you remember which page looked like it broke the page shape? I have over 400 pages in the site.

Thank you all so much for taking time to look. It's been very helpful.

After my Ireland trip I changed about 3/4 my ads to target the US, with 1/4 to other countries. But I think I'm going to run one general campaign to serve all countries now that less Public Service Ads seem to be showing.

From my stats and newsletter subscribers, I have a large number of folks from the UK region and Autrailia....even have a subscriber from the gov't there: .gov.au :)

thanks again!

Yes, you can just hide them, or remove them. I tend to just hide them so that page layouts aren't too affected. You can also modify the display for individual sites, for example on OF I have Googleads disabled, but allow the Sponsors to display.

Gotta love that Foxy browser
:)

Interesting. I gotta try it, though I hope not too many people who visit my site find out about it. :):)
