Themes and Navigation Bars Fail to Show Up on Uploaded ... - 7/24/2001 17:38:00
I created a webpage using FrontPage 2000 and uploaded it to Tripod. I uploaded all of my picture graphics etc with no problem.

The themes on Frontpage refuse to show up on my published web page, I assumed they would just upload with my page file. So I uploaded a few of the theme graphics and wallpaper to see if then they would show up on the webpage -- they didn't. I contacted Tripod and they said I could perhaps have an incorrect file name for the theme graphics but I've checked the file names, they're the same. The HTML script looks okay to me, so what should I do?

Thankyou for any advice or suggestions on this manner,

Tina

Did you publish from within Frontpage, or did you use FTP to move the files to the server?

I believe in order to have the themes work as you desire, your site MUST be published.

File>Publish Web>put in your server location, then it will ask for username/password. And then FP will move all the files you need to the server.

One other question. Does Tripod now support the Frontpage server extensions? These will be needed.

Thankyou very much for all of your advice, I did got to file/publishweb and when I typed in the address it said that my address did not have frontpage server extensions installed! If I'm to understand correctly then, tripod is missing software that would make my webpage compatible?
Is there a hosting site (preferably free, this is just a dinky little personal page) that does have frontpage server extensions installed and that I could get FP to upload to?
Thankyou for all of your time and help, I would probably be still wandering in the dark without it.

Sincerely,

Tina

Oh and PS, my site address is
http://snowdragon003.tripod.com/index.htm

It's not the most technologically advanced of a webpage, however this is my first crack at the "making the webpage" deal so I'm proud of it (except for the themes and navigation bars being timed out, it really does make me look like an amateur)

Thanks again,

Tina

The choice for you are:

Stay with Tripod as a host, continue to use FP, but don't use the features that need the server extensions - that means rebuilding your site with out themes, navigation bars.

Find a different hosting service, one that provides the extensions. I think both geocities and angelfire have the extensions, along with others.

A search on google should give you more choices.

Tripod has server extensions. I've used them...

go here to enable them:
http://www.tripod.com/build/enable_frontpage/
I remember reading something about the extensions only working with one of the URL's you get there...(ie: either joy.thedoghouse.tripod.com -or- www.members.tripod.com/joy.thedoghouse) I'm not sure which. I'm sure it's in their help files.

Errm, Nancy - my web host doesn't provide FP server extensions, but my site (with themes) works just fine. The site is uploaded using FTP - you just need to make sure to upload the required files in the _themes folder etc. and any graphics used.

Jeff.
