'Operation failed' updating MDB; DIW, all 2003 - 11/21/2004 19:30:57
I'm getting an 'operation failed. If this continues...' error from Windows2003 Server when trying to update an Access MDB. I have been all around the forums, including this excellent one, so as to not waste anyone's time. But after 2 weeks, I'm ready to jump out a window.

Background: Fairly new to FP (but I used to code a lot). I'm using FP 2003, Database Interface Wizard, ASP.NET.
- Tried with both my custom MDB and an example from a book (O'Reilly's Access Cookbook) designed to be used like this: same result with both
- It updates fine on IIS installed in an XP PC (so I don't think it's the 'numeric default' issue, but maybe that points to permissions on the server), but doesn't work on IIS on a Win2003 Server (recent install)
- I can't see any detailed error message (although I've change DEBUG to TRUE, then also tried to use the 3 old FP2000 files as suggested in the _fpclass area FPDBLIB.INC, FPDBRGN1.INC, FPDBRGN2.INC), but still see no detail on the error. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place (no detail on IE screen [firendly=off], nothing comprehensible WC3 logs on server)
- I've opened up all the permissions I can think of (sharing, NOT read only, and full access for IUSR, IWAN, IIS_WPG)

I'm sure that fact that it works on my PC and not the server is telling, but what it's telling I don't no. Help please--

Can you direct us to a web page with that error?
It may be a reserved word / column name that is causing the script to fail.
Some new words are often introduced with new data drivers causing old scripts to fail

Here it is. Please be gentle as all the permissions on this site are wide open:

I was guessing that since it worked on my XP PC it wasn't going to be a field naming problem, but please do take a look. Note that neither EDIT or DELETE work on the W2003 Server behind the above URL.

I hope that somehow you're making big bucks rendering all this help. Thanks in advance for the effort...

More info:

Finally a breakthru - Assuming it was permission problem, I opened the directory up to full control for EVERYONE, and that seemded to work. Since I can't leave it like that, I'll try to figure out which perrmison it actually was.

BTW, can you tell me why I can't see any detail in the error messages? Are details supposed appear on the browser, or do I look in log (can't seem them in either place). Ive set fp_BEBUG = True, then tried to copy in the old FP2000 fp_*.inc files into _fpclass, turned on client & server debugging in IIS, have Friendly HTTP msgs = off. Doing this with no error details is ulgy.

Thanks again for the help--

It may be because you are using .net, and the instructions were for asp? :)

No, it was permissions on the MDB file. But I don't know which ones -after opening up IUSR and WPG and that not working, I open up write access to EVERYONE onthat file and it worked. Shouldn't do that, but I never did find the correct user to open up for writing.
Thanks for the support--

Are you sure you allowed write permissions for IUSR_machinename? That's the user that normally needs it...
