Nice idea but it doesn't quite work. I think the heading needs something. Maybe tie it in design-wise with the woman on the left.

And..... another site that is spoiled by that flipping Geocities pop up. :)

Hi Jaybee,

Thanks for the comment. But I didn't have any specific plans for the heading. I just wanted the background fixed and rest of the text to move.

Moreover, if I make the heading a part of the background as you suggested, the scroll of the text would overlap the heading, if I tie up the heading to the background image.

Do suggest any alternative that I can make the homepage look better.

Sadly, cannot do anything about the geocities pop-up.

No, not make it part of the background, just design something that has a similar feel.

Ashesh
there seems little point in having a site where half of your message cannot be read. (unless you have a popup blocker I guess). See the 'about us' page for example.
Can you get it hosted anywhere else?
Am I allowed to ask that????

Does that mean that I should have a heading which is related to the dancing woman on the left? Or maybe I should change the background to suit the text.

I think I should put up my pic standing against a slightly dark background. :)

Actually I didnt have the plan of having a background image until the last minute. I simply wanted to have a page with a gray (#808080) background with the heading, main text and left menu centered on the page. But when I saw the image, I put it and aligned my text to right. Liked it that way, as in future I can have my pic or some other background that I might like.

Yes, I too hate the yahoo pop-up ads. Byt geocities seems to be faster in loading pages. Moreover, other than the ONLY pop-up on the page, there are none which open as seperate pages. I didnt like the service of fortunecity or some other provider, where pop-ups come in many pages and that too continously.

Do u think brinkster is good? And if u know some good free webhosting provider, do let me know.

Don't you get free hosting space from your ISP?

As for the logo, I meant something like this....

Ashesh

http://www.freewebs.com
http://hosting.mixcat.com

Top one asks for a small text ad at the bottom on the index page
Second one - FTP is disabled at the mo, and the online text editor used ads a small text ad to the bottomof every page, but the hosting is good on the free package:)

Hi JB,

Thanks for the logo heading... Liked it very much

I donot have any tools to make such buttons etc. And personally I like to my homepage to be as simple as possible.

I like to use various colors to make the homepage look good, but unexpectedly I found the present background image and wanted to try fixed background and it seemed to fit well until everyone at my place strated asking how it fits in my homepage...

I use my school LAN to access Internet. So I have to depend on geocities and the like to host my homepage.

Ashesh,

you can have the header. click on it in the thread to open it up, right click on it and save as.

I used Paint Shop Pro to do it but you can get a graphics package that does similar stuff here..... free!

There are loads of tutorials around the web for gold text etc.

This is of course assuming your school will allow you to download it.
