creating left border - 7/26/2001 14:17:00
I am trying to create a solid blue border about 50 pixels wide with white space to the right of about 100 pixels. I want to have it on the left side of the web page, but as a cell background and insert pictures into the cell in a vertical column so they appear to be overlapping the blue vertical part of the graphic. Problem is, when I insert a picture, the cell expands so as to tile the cell background, getting two blue vertical lines.I inserted a transparent gif of 150 wide, to hold the cell in place, but it is still doing this. I checked into the cell settings, and alignment is set for center even tried align left, but it still tiles...any answers?

Extend your image's width to a size greater that the cell. In other words, anytime you insert a picture greater that 150px into the cell it expands, causing your blue line to tile. You can make you blue line image about 10px high by 600 wide and have not have to worry about tiling.Hope this makes sense. Hi, Tressa - Cell backgrounds can be tricky to work with. You might want to try it this way.... Create a graphic image that's say 10 x 1400 pxs. It could be as little as 1px high, or as high as needed for the look you are doing. Width should be at least 1200 to prevent tiling in high resolutions... I don't know what the highest available currently is, but I usually use 1600 as insurance. Use this as your background image of the page and use tables to do your layout. The left cell of your table can be merged into one column and then insert your transparent gif to hold it open. If you have more questions, just ask! Tressa, I like to put everything in tables so I don't have to worry about resolution. That said, you can create blue border with enough white space to fill the entire width of the table. In other words, make the width perhaps 800 pixels wide. Then make a table with the width of 800 pixels. You can now have the pictures placed in the cells wherever you want within this table.

oh, I forgot to mention that the graphic should be placed in the background of the table so the pictures can simply be put into the cells over the background.
