I'm just getting into this flash thing and Im on a broadband so everything seems fast. Can somone with a dial up please look at
www.risemusic.co.uk
and tell me whether it takes a boring amount of time to load.
Its only the splash page and one other for now. Im just trying to get a feel for the way these type of pages load.
If you wait until the end of the first page, it should load straight into the second page, which is the really heavy file size.
Many thanks...

♫♫♫♫♫♫ Now and for always, let it be me...tum te tum te.....♫♫♫♫♫♫

Ooops sorry, got a bit carried away there. I'm on Boradband but it seemed to zap up really fast, especiall considering the song size. I assume you're streaming that?

There was one thing I didn't like.

I was just getting in to the groove on the first page and it stopped dead leaving me on one leg :)

[Edit} See, I'm so put out it's even wrecked my spelling. Never interrupt a woman mid-boogie!

Watch it you. I was a 70s DJ. I never cut a song off mid-boogie. Well, not intentionally anyway. :)

Loads really quickly here, short delay at the very beginning of the splash.

Might be nice if the music fades out at the end, but it would be difficult to do on the skip intro button (which doesn't work by the way) but people who'd skip through it probably aren't all that interested in it anyway and it's their choice to skip!

Hi, I liked the intro, the way the words danced in tune with the music. I have broadband and the speed seemed ok to me.

Regards

Hi Walrus,

Well it looks as if i'm the bearer of the bad news!

I use a 56k dial-up modem and it took 1.5 minutes until the "Done" appeared in the Status Bar. After 3 minutes i still only had a blank brown screen.

I'm not sure if i'm typical of others with a similar modem, i've been having some problems with this computer lately, but nothing like that though. I only had 2 other tasks open at the time and didn't use them while waiting for your site to load.

Nicole

But dont worry, I have learnt that if you call for help, then don't shoot the messenger!
Thanks

It's going to be the sound file. You'll need to resample at a lower bitrate and mono only. You'll be surprised how much difference it makes and as long as you don't go too low it still sounds pretty good too.

Does anyone recommend a free sampler/sound editor that I could download?

Take a look at this

I use Nero 6 for my sound editing as well as a piece of kit called Digital Sound Recorder.

I have used Media Encoder 9 for Video editing though and it works pretty well. Actually, as much as it pains me to say it about an MS product, I found it easier to use than some of the professional tools out there.

Keep your eyes open for some of the magazines. They have freebies on the disks. If you go to WHS they'll have some specifically for digital audio.
