drussel -> replacing gifsand bmps with jpgs (7/26/2001 23:16:00)

I built a site using gifs and bmps mostly and now realize i should have predominately used jpgs to make it smaller. I used Graphics workshop to convert all the images in a back up copy to jpgs. Now how do i do that to the web which has been published. There must be a more efficient way than doing them one by one. When I do will this will it effect the hotspots I have created on the photos on my page that zap the viewer to another page? Also how will it effect the thumbnails on these secondary pages? All help appreciated.

Hi Russel.

First, be sure you have only used .jpg for photos and gradients. Everything else should be .gifs.

The good news is that if all your new .jpgs are residing in the same folder you can import them into your web at the same time. As you select them, keep Control depressed.

The bad news is that you will need to insert them into the pages one-by-one. Don't use absolute positioning! Don't forget to delete the old graphics from your web.

The hotspots will need to be redone. Thumbnails will no longer be pointing to the correct file if the larger pics were replaced or renamed.

Sounds like you've got something to keep you busy for a while.

That's not what I wanted to hear. But thanks Sandy.
