Best Web Development Application - 11/23/2004 16:23:24
Hey all -

I've been writting web pages for a couple years now, but never was really able to get into the graphics side of sites. I'm going to be designing a family web site and was wondering what a good application would be. I was thinking of using Dreamweaver or GoLive because I haven't ever used those and I thought this would be an opportunity to try one out. Can anyone offer any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks
Erin

Are you talking about a graphics program or a Web Dev. program?

They are two very different things...

If you use Dreamweaver then Fireworks would be a good option, since the two play very nicely together... but it's more expensive than some.

But overall you don't need anything fancy. Photoshop will do 3000 times more than you need for basic web graphics... if you can afford it it's a fun toy.

Paint Shop Pro is a great choice for around $100

There's also The GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) which is a free, open source image editor that rivals Paint Shop Pro, and even Photoshop on some levels...

www.gimp.org (make sure you get the Windows version, assuming that's what OS you use)

It pretty much doesn't matter which one you use as they all do a very good job of creating and editing... it's more a matter of which one you personally like and how much cash you want to spend.

If you're asking about a Web Development tool... that's another subject for another forum... :)

The html editor and the image editor don't really have anything to do with one another... you can work with any combination of them...
