Hi All, As most know, if you put this line in your page: <a href="mailto:info@frontpagewebmaster.com?subject=Inquiry"> ... a link is created and if you click on it, your email software will load in with the subject line "Inquiry" all ready to send an email to OutFront. But with this method you have to "CLICK" the link in order to get the email software to pop-up. Does anyone know how to make it automatic so that when a user goes to a page, the email software automatically pops-up without actually having to click the link? Thanks, LLLuneeeee [:)]

This is a long shot, but have you tried meta refresh?

I would only consider using that tactic if the vast majority of my visitors normally send an email every time they view the page. I wouldn't be too thrilled if my email program pops up each time I go to a page with an email link on it. [:@] Seems overly intrusive and virtually demands that you send an email. You can bet I won't ever return to the site either.

Everybody relax. That's not my intention. I used the example I gave because I didn't know any other way to explain what I need to do. But since everybody got the wrong impression I guess I'll explain now: You've heard of click-through systems? They monitor the amount of hits that go to another website when you post someones banner on your website. In other words, you want to post your banner on my site, but you also want me to tell you how many times a month someone has clicked on the banner. So you create a click-through system that first updates a file on your site each time a visitor clicks that banner, then after the file is updated you send the visitor to the site connected to the banner. I have that. And it works great. I created it in .asp/vb. But now I got a client that wants to be able to have the click-through bring up email software so they can send him an email, instead of sending the visitor to his site. He has a product that is a big seller, and he is giving away free samples. So he wants the banner to bring up the clients email software, with the subject line "SAMPLES REQUEST" filled in and their email address filled in. No problem. I can do that with a link. But if I use a straight link, then I can't monitor how many times someone has clicked on the banner. So I can either have the email software pop-up without being able to monitor how many times it was clicked on, OR - monitor how many times someone clicked on the banner, but not be able to bring up the email software. This is the delimma. For those of you that need something like this for their site, here is the click-through script I created and use: <<< REMOVED >>>> Do you need to see the site I'm talking about? <<< REMOVED >>>> That's the site. Okay, now that I explained everything in full glorious detail... ...and gave out a script anyone can use... Does anyone know how to bring up email software without having to click on a link? Well... you mentioned this goes to a new page, so I would assume you can add the meta refresh tag inbetween the <head> and </head> tags, but instead of a URL, replace it with the mailto code. [:)] I don't know of any body onload functions that will open an href...

There is no valid reason for this intrusion. It is the same as any other advertisement thrown in my face. I would immediately cancel the e-mail without a moments hesitation. I would never return.

For the self-rightious out there - keep this in mind. 1): Email Purpose : When you click on it, if you don't like it, you close the box and don't send an email. It reflects on the client more than it does us. We prefer the normal click-through to website, while monitoring how many times it was clicked on, not bringing up email software so they can send a email to the client. 2): Transmission Purpose : What is sent out through this business only goes to people that are registered in one of the ten associations we have listed on our homepage. Nobody else. That includes you. 3): Transmission Purpose : The list we use is by 100% opt-in. They want it, or we don't send it. Our company forces nothing on nobody. Hope all are at ease now. [:-]

I am sure it can be done in Javascript, my knowledge of Javascript isn't that great though. If you are still interested in doing this, I will ask around.

Hi Bobby, My knowledge of Javascript is limited too. I try to avoid it. I can usually do everything I need to with asp and vb. Plus Javascript has lost some of it's zing lately. It gives off a certain feeling of dishonesty and makes people think you are cheezy. So, what if it's an opt-in. It's still annoying and it IS trying to force people to sign up. You know your company isn't like that... but your users don't. Why would I want to opt-in to anything, without having the chance to view your webiste first. Sure I can close the box and then read it, but, by then it would be too late. I would do as Clarles said... close the box and immediately leave the site. Never to return. In your face pop-ups and in your face dialog boxes are unprofessional when used in that manner. Bobby is right, you can use a javascript function to complete this task.
