Please comment on my new design - 11/29/2004 23:16:18
I have just finished playing with Xara Webstyle4 and some other applications and re-wrote the front page of my site:

http://www.2flare.com

The links work with the previous design (you can compare overall image). The site is "alive" and working - this is not a test site.

On the same note, you can checkout my more relaxed site at:

http://www.rses.com

Your comments are appreciated.

Thanks
ashesh

I think most of the text on the front page doesn't fit into the frame with border and spills out.

It would have been great if the home/about, 2flare and other button along with the cup fit into the left menu border. And of all the description on the right fits into the main border area.

It does fit and works great in FireFox, check this:

:)

I received similar comments from other IE users and great praises from FireFox users. Regardless, i will correct it for the weaker browser.

Found the problem. It is the missing "x" (quotes) in some of the commands. IE doesn't like it. FireFox doesn't care... maybe it should.

I went back to the older design until I'll find time to fix it.... which already gave me a new idea for the whole site.... again, need to find time.

Can't believe how I was fooled by the perfect display of FireFox and missed the total mess of IE.

Thanks for the comments. Learning every day.

You should check it in both and if you can, Netscape, Mozilla and Opera as well.

JayBee,

Yes, you are correct. It is better to test on both browsers... with great hopes that IE will fade away soon...

I checked your work at JB Visions. Very nice. So you like Xara too ha...

devek,

Poor: grammar, sentence structure, improper use of tenses, (mis)spelling, punctuation, etc. immediately negates the commercial value of any site. You need to rework the following http://www.2flare.com home page non-sentence:

"Always fresh and produce in small batches that immediately delivered"

Also, you might want to rethink the color, size and font style of the home page text since it does not agree with the rest of the site.

Oh really?!!!!

Where did you get that idea from?

I think you'll find that there are a few of us on here who will disagree with you on that one big time.

I've used Xara 3d for a couple of the logos. Great for doing 3d text of a certain type such as the California Ballroom logo. Menu-maker is quite handy for flashy stuff too.

I have a copy of Xara Webstyle 4 but I've not actually used it for any sites. If something comes in that will fit one of their templates I might give it a go as it uses cascading style sheets.

I tend not to use menumaker for anything apart from the graphics as the results, whilst clever aren't accessible and that California menu is a devil for anyone who's disabled. As soon as I get some time I've got a load of work to do on that site.

Glad you like the sites.

that's what i can conclude after the web sites i made

i'm using IE so IE.. IE.. IE..
i test all the web sites using IE
and there is no problem with the page when i view it using other browsers

That's because you design your sites using tables for layout which display in a similar manner in all the browsers. Try doing the same using cascading styles sheets for layout and you'll find it's a completely different story.

Larry M.

Thank you very much. Yes, after reading it again, I realized how your view bangs head-on with Prof. Simon of Dominion University who thought the site was very marketable... Go figure.

I changed the front page and it makes more sense now.

The only thing I can still say for myself is: as one who English is not his first language, I didn't do THAT bad.

I appreciate the direct response. I hope the new look makes more sense.
