PSP7 questions - 9/17/2001 20:19:00
Can anyone explain how I'd do the following in PSP7? I want to make a side bar which is 3-toned...I made a left vertical column graphic and copied it, lightened the color & placed it over the 1st darker one, with some of the dark layer behind showing at the right edge. Then I made a 3rd exact column only lighter, this lightest layer on the top with a bit of the medium & darkest layers showing on the right. I want to 'diffuse' the edges so they are not so hard where they blend at the right. Any ideas?

Also, I'm doing the same tri-color top bar, and am wanting a curve to connect the two. I know how to make a curve, but not a tri-color curve to match up exactly to the top and side bar. Any help is appreciated & detailed would be best- thanks so much!!!

Hi,

The way I would approach it is this:

1. Create an image about 800 x 600 (doesn't really matter as you'll be slicing the image and not using all of it.)

2. Make the background the color you want to use for the main color of the border. Flood fill your image with this color.

3. Using your Preset Shapes tool with Shape Type set to Rounded Rectangle, Style set to Stroked & Filled, Line Width set to 6 or so (depending on how wide a stripe you want, Antialiased checked, and Create as Vector checked, make sure that your foreground color is set to one of the colors you want to use as a stripe and the background color set to the other color you want for a stripe. Create your rounded rectangle leaving about 2" of the original background color showing on the left side and the top.

4. Create a new raster layer and set the foreground color to white. Using your preset shapes tool again, set the Style to Filled and draw another rounded rectangle in the middle and adjust it up next to the striped borders until you have the effect you want. (The white is your page body background.)

5. Merge your layers

Then, you'll have to slice it up and strategcally place each graphic to get the effect you want, but that's another lesson. (There are several ways to go about it, depending on how you have your page set up, so let us know when you have the graphic the way you want.)

Hope that helps ...
