FrontPage Search feature Performance Issues - 12/2/2004 13:38:56
I don't know if this is something anyone can help with or not...

We all use FP 2003 to do our simple webpage maintenance and we all run Windows XP SP 2 on PCs attached to our Windows Server network.

I and a colleague (who still does) used to get lightning fast responses when doing website page searches from within FrontPage while one of us took for ever.

As I'm the boss and he isn't I didn't do anything about it at the time.

Anyway, I recently changed machines from an Acer laptop to a Pentium desktop - still running XP on the same network - and I now get the terribly slow searching problem.

We don't use a Proxy Server and we've got the network set-up OK; my colleague still gets lightning fast response, using the same PC software (XP Service Pack 2) and on the same network.

It's baffling. Any ideas?

Hi Brian,

Are the same network protocols in use (TCP/IP/NETbios/ETC) as the other machine? Speed of nick card maybe set to 10MB? Settings at the port on the blade on the switch that your LAN connection connects to hard coded and not set to auto? Try swapping the NIC card?

Just a few thoughts. I would bet you have NETBios enabled, this is notorious for slowing TCP/IP transmissions going from desktop memories of years ago. I do know this has to be local to the desktop in my gut as nothing else should have changed unless you moved offices/cubes.

Take care,

Brian
