Search Engines not linking... - 12/4/2004 20:19:11
Okay, so I haven't researched much into search engines yet, but i'd like your help with something please. I've picked out some local businesses that currently have websites though they're poorly designed and i've created a sample site for them, taken a screen snapshot and put it within my site for these potential clients to look at. While these snapshots mention their business name and location etc, and use images which exist on their current website, I'd like them to be assured that no mention of these things has been written on the site and therefore search engines won't pick up on my sample pages. I've included the following note on each of these sample pages: "Please Note: This page has not been titled nor fitted with 'meta tags' so search engines will not be able to search it." I'm wondering if this is even correct, or whether it could be worded better, or even if i've left anything out could you guys please post your opinions please. Thanks Nicole

Why not build the site, rank it in the top 3 for appropriate terms and location and *then* approach the potential client. You would be adding a lot more value to your product.

Hi Mojo, Thanks for getting back to the original question and getting away from the silliness. I agree with you that doing what you've said would greatly increase the value of my websites, but that's a bit bold don't you think? I mean, by doing that, i'm severly showing up their websites, and i do think i should consider that the owner of the business may be the actual person who designed their site, or their daughter, son, brother, mother etc etc etc. It could be quite insulting to them. I also wonder about the ethics of doing what you've suggested and also any breaches of copyright eg. using their business name, images etc. The original question was really whether my brief statement on the example page i've made is sufficient or should it be worded differently or have i left anything out as i'm not very sure at the moment of just how search engines browse sites. Anyway, thanks for bringing up an interesting point. Nicole
