Drag & Drop back up of FP Web directory - 12/5/2004 20:21:02
I tried something I never tried before and am wondering if anyone knows if this is reliable. My CGI bin, which contains all the files in a directory for a YaBB forum, is in the main web. I need to back it up weekly. From the FrontPage 2002 File menu, I selected Publish Web. When connected to the site live, all the folders, etc. appear in the left-hand pane. Then I directed the path to publish the CGI bin and it's contents to my desktop. I simply dragged the CGI bin icon fromthe left window onto the right window and the CGI Bin and all it's contents were copied to my hard drive. Pretty nifty, unless someone has reason to believe this is an unreliable route to take. Any thoughts about this would be appreciated. Thanks, gail

Gail There's nothing wrong with that method, but (yeah there's always one of them), I wouldn't trust it, due to FP doing strange things now and then. I would FTP in to the site, and then download the files that way. You will be safe on the FPSE side, as long as you just touch your cgi bin folder. Just one question though....which version of YaBB are you using? as I have it installed here, and no need for cgi-bin folders....just outta curiosity (which will kill this cat one day :)

Plain and simple, which is really all I need since my "forum" is not really a forum in the usual sense of the word. When my host upgraded to a new server, the CGI bin now resides in the main web directory. I've learned to live with that when publishing a web back to my hard drive with FrontPage...just a few tweaks and there are no problems. You're probably right. Safer to use FTP than be sorry. Thanks for the reply. gail
