Transparency....*!?%* - 10/1/2001 23:39:00
Graphics seem to be the bain of my life these last few days....this time it's to do with transparency.

I have a logo which is coloured text. It's come to me as a Gif and I need to make the image have a transparent background for use on a coloured web page.

I've tried using the Optimize Panel, set to Index Transparency & I've set the transparent index colour to white (selected from both the image and from the swatch). When I export this I get a very thin ragged white edge around all of the letters.

I've posted the original non-transparent image and one with Index transparency applied to http://www.marsbrook.com/example.html - the background page colour has been randomly chosen.

Appreciate it if someone could make some suggestions as to where I'm going wrong! I work with Fireworks.

Thanks people.
Richard

Any image or text that has anti-aliasing in effect with a bg color, is going to give you fits when you try to make it transparent.

It looks like you have come to the same conclusion, you must make it transparent from the gitgo. It would be easier that way, but as you discovered, it can be done with a little work.

Your right, I did (or rather someone else did) get there in the end. The problem was that the graphic had come from a thrid party and the white background was part and parcel of the image. To get rid of this in Fireworks she used the Magic Wand set for anti-alias to delete the white background with a softness that wasn't in the original.

Thanks though Gene.
