zygote -> Trying to Cut an Image into a shape.... (10/3/2001 14:23:00)

I have an image, regular JPG image. Square, right out of the camera.
What I need to do is to cut this into an Oval shape. No big deal. Image composer does this with ease!

So now I have an oval shape that I want. I can drag this to anywhere on the screen. I right click on it and save image. I save it as a JPG file.

Now comes the frustrating part. I launch this new file I saved and notice that although the picture is in the shape of an oval, the program saved it with a white background. Why? If I want to cut it and save it as an oval, why do I have to save it as a GIF file with the outer edges as a transparent? Why can't it save it as an oval?

Hi

Try pasting a "copy" of your oval image ( at time of creating it oval) onto a square/rectangle of your background colour.
Then save the whole lot as your new square image(in JPG).

Most Graphic editors do not deal in Ovals. All the windows I have ever seen in an editor are rectangular or square.

Try as Garry suggested, it should work fine.
