Anthonyb415 -> trouble with css tables (12/8/2004 15:03:59)

Im having trouble with my css. IE 6.0 displays my website "stacked", the sidebar is after the main body of the page, as opposed to beside it. Safari, and Firefox display it fine, but I have noticed that if you make the horizontal part of the window smaller, it will stack the sidebar below the main text as well. I think these two problems are the same, how do i fix it? is this an application for the "absolute" tag? if so how do i use it? In advance, thanks!

Hi Anthony welcome to OF.

Two things that hit me immediately.

One, that front page is waaaaay too long. Put in some more links and split it up a bit.

Two your Doctype is XHTML and your HTML isn't. EG. You have <br> in there. XHTML uses <br />

Running your code through the validator gives a lot of errors. Correct all of these or change your doctype to HTML 4 and then correct the errors. Then check your layouts.

incidentally putting "This website works best with Firefox!" is admirable in so far as you want to promote firefox, but the point of browsers like FF is that they are standards compliant and so should your code be: we don't want a repeat of the browser wars, that's how we ended up in this mess in the first place!
