bar31 -> How to b/u FP and Image Composer (12/8/2004 15:33:54)

Hi All - i have to reformat and reload Windows 98 according to the Geek Squad at BestBuy. I believe them becuz my system is completely hosed!

The only thing on my computer I really care about is FP and Image Composer. I have had those programs for so long and have moved around quite a bit in the interim and no longer have the original system disks. I also don't have a backup progam...

Advice on how I can "backup" FP and Image Composer such that I can reload after I reload Windows?

If you use a backup utility like Ghost it can save an image of your hard disk... but if you're reinstalling I don't think you can restore just pieces of that image...

I think that restoring a backed up partition would defeat the purpose of the reformat / reinstall... but it might be worth checking on.

Dan -

Don't worry about installing it... just create the boot floppies and use those to create a backup partition. (If I remember right you don't have to have Ghost installed to create the floppies for backing up... I could be wrong tho)

I had a HDD that crashed so hard before I had a chance to back it up that I couldn't even get it to boot into the Ghost floppies...

I ended up using Knoppix Linux to go in and save my important files to a CD-RW before I replaced the drive.

thanks bobby..actually, Im in good shape vis-a-vis backup for data. you guys had a discussion months ago about eternal hard drives and , after following it, I bought a USB external hard drive for $79!!!! Ghost is just to make the back ups easier (when i get this damn thing fixed..lol)

We're supposed to be getting a new PC soon... hopefully this month... I'm going to buy my wife a Maxtor One-Touch so she can back up her Windows partition easier...
