Alphabetizing data - 2/28/2001 18:18:00
I have reams of name listings in a nested table (table within a table), but they are not listed alphabetically. Is there anyway to alphabetize data which is in tables format in FrontPage 2000, as you would in Word 97/2000. I couldn't find anything similar to Word or Excel format keys. Please advise.

Thanks in advance for your anticipated reply.

Hi

No, it's not possible to alphabetise the contents of a static table. The achive what you're after, you either need to make it alphabetical by hand, or pull your results from a database.

I have looked into this as well, with no luck. I did find a pretty good solution though. I just copy the content from my site, paste it into an excel file, sort it there, and then past it back in.

You can even do it in Word :-) - But camp185 is right - best done in Excel. A quick suggestion though - when you take your table into excel be *sure* to format your headers cells with shading or a border - something that differentiates it from the data otherwise excel can get confused - rare but it happens you can mail me about this if it happens to you or if you need to do a complex sort. marksaunders@techie.com will get to me :-)

Here are two links to have a look at as well - both from Microsoft.

Hope this helps.

Instead of taking the whole table into Excel, I'd suggest taking only the text. You may want to copy/paste to Wordpad (Notepad) on your way back to FP to take some (all) of the Excel formating back out.
