Haas -> 46 errors on my home page ??? (12/13/2004 14:08:42)

I just started using Frontpage 2003 and thought things were going really well. I designed 7 pages, imported graphics, created a menu with links to each page, added mouseover effects on the text, etc. etc.

Then I used the Browser Compatibility test and came up with 46 errors on my home page alone! What's going on? FP-STYLE, FP-TEXT, HREF, ONMOUSEDOWN, ONMOUSEOUT, ONMOUSEOVER, V:SHAPES, XMLNS:0 -- and the list goes on from there -- are all apparently "not permitted" for the <IMG> tags. The problems all seem to occur with 4.0 browsers (IE and Navigator), so I'm guessing tags have evolved.

Is there an easy fix? And how can I make sure I don't keep using features that aren't compatible with 4.0 browsers?

what the standards folks recommend and what the browsers "permit" are not the same.

Thanks ... and a quick follow-up ... when I try to Preview my site in IE I get this message: "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this file from showing active content that could access your computer". Is this related to the compatibility problems above or just a standard warning?

(I'm running IE 6.0 on XP if that matters.)

"To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this file from showing active content that could access your computer"
- This is the new "security feature" in XP.

You will need to enable this (usually you click on the top yellow bar) in order to correctly view the page.

Is there some way to keep it turned off? And once I post the site, that security message won't pop up on XP visitors will it?

its a setting on your computer..on your version of IE, not on your web pages. visitors will have encountered it and made their decision of on/off before they get to your site <smile>

in addition, it's best to check your site here
http://validator.w3.org/
and if you're using css (cascading style sheets) then you can check that here
http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/
:)

ok, but if it's a setting on my computer (operating system) then how come I don't encounter that message when I visit other sites. The only time it pops up is when I preview my site. Isn't there something in the design of my site that's triggering the security warning? Hopefully something I can alter to keep it from coming up?
