bobby -> Link problem from Outlook (12/16/2004 13:21:30)

Does anyone know why I would get an error that says "This action has been cancelled because of security settings on this computer, please contact your system administrator"

... every time I try to click a link from an emai in Outlook?

I don't use it, but my wife does... (Outlook, not OE)

She can't click any links... URL in an email, even the help button and online support from MS can't be reached from clicking the link in Outlook...

Very strange.

I can use Thunderbird, Mozilla Mail with no problem... clicking links acts the way it should... but in Outlook it's not working.

She's an ebay fiend, so this is really frustrating her.

She's blaming me, though I haven't done anything different in the last week... other than download an update to Zone Alarm, and grab a Windows update and some NAV updates...

perplexing...

I do what I can...

If it were up to me she'd be on some variation of Debian Linux and I wouldn't have these issues...

Check the mail security settings. One of them has been increased by your updates. Can't tell you which one, I had to hunt around till I found the culprit.

I checked that, nothing looks out of the ordinary...

And it's not affecting Mozilla mail or Thunderbird...

I found a lot of registry hacks for Outlook Express (for similar problem) but can't find anythin for Outlook.

There was one post I found that said to make sure IE was set as default browser... tried that and it didn't help either...

I have a similar problem. The only way I can open any links from outlook is to open them in FireFox. Once I made FF my default browser I was able to open links again. No idea what caused the problem. One day I could open links in IE the next day I could not. I have Outlook 2000.

The problem fixed itself.

No explaination, no reason that I can see... just works now...
