drhardee -> Newbie's Frontpage problems (12/21/2004 13:13:46)

Hello all,

I'm the webmaster for a local car club. The website is hosted by Godaddy.com. For the last month or so, I've been unable to get into the site to update any pages! I get one of two MS error messages: "Documents in this folder are not available. The folder may have been moved or deleted, or there may be server problems preventing you from accessing the server". I'll also get an error message of: "Cannot open we80.cnf: no such file or folder."

If I try to use Jimco Openweb to open the site , I get a runtime error. I know the site is up, as I can view it on IE. This is happening on 2 different WIN XP SP2 computers, one at work, and one at home.

What, oh what did I do? Godaddy tech support claims it's not their fault..and I believe them. I keep both PC's updated with all service packs and Office updates, which, if I read some of the other posts in this forum, may be part of my problem.

Where do I begin?[&o]

Hi, and WELCOME to Outfront forums.

It sounds like you are doing all your editing live on the server which is not a terribly good idea for a number of reasons - the first and most important being, that you have no offsite backup.

However, you need to get it working again right now.

Your copy of FP might be corrupt. Open it, and then do a Help >> Detect & Repair. You will need your installation CD to hand. If any FP files are corrupt, this process should fix them.

Please let us know how you go, so if it doesn't help we can find other things to try.

Good luck!

<edit>Oops, just noticed that you are running XP SP2 - consider turning off the firewall, and see if that helps! </edit>

Kitka,

Thanks for the assistance. Unfortunately, "Detect and Repair", and turning off the firewall in SP2 did not work. FP seems to be attempting at connecting to the webserver, but I keep getting the "Server error: cannot open we80.cnf files not accessible" error message. I'll definitely save a copy of my site to my hard drive for editing purposes once I get out of this mess!

Any suggestions?[>:]

I just did a Google search on this problem and everything I found says that your FP server extensions are corrupt. Your host (Godaddy) will need to re-install the server extensions, and once they do you should be able to connect to your site.

I went to Godaddy, un-installed FP extensions, then installed them. I'll wait a short while before testing this. Thanks for the help! I'll let y'all know how this turns out.
