Searches without the FP Extensions - 3/15/2001 20:55:00
I have this in the server topic as well but perhaps it really should be here.

I have developed in FP2000, a site that will run on our NT intranet under the main company page. It consists of several hundred pages of documentation with indices (alphabetic & numeric). Our webmaster/site admin doesn't want to run the FP extensions on his server and suggested using IIS instead. Without a search capability, the page is less than user friendly but I am new to Frontpage & this sort of server. Could someone give me a clue as to where to start with developing a search page to work with IIS? Any advice or help would be appreciated.

IIS has a search engine and some sample asp pages that come with it have your admin give you a hand but these samples should be in a folder called IISsamples. You may have to go back to the IIS cd to get these samples pages I know alot of admins delete this folder because it is a known security risk. By the way this search engine is much much more robust than what comes with frontpage once you get it going you and your users will love it.

I highly reccomend Atomz. http://www.atomz.com/

They have both a free version and a paid version - but most sites can get away with the free version as it is determined by the number of pages a site has. It is easy to implement and very customizable.

Thanks, I'll try to convince my ADMIN that I need those samples. I did take a look at the other program you suggested but I couldn't use that here at our facility although it would be helpful for a personal site I have planned.

I'll probably be back with more questions later. So glad you folks are here!
