d a v e -> blacklisted (12/22/2004 14:27:07)

my dad just rang me and said that his email that he tried to send me was returned - the reason being that my address davepk [at] regionline.fi was blacklisted

what might next steps be? he's been sending emails to this address fine for a couple of years now. incidentally i have noticed that i occasionally get returned mails from addresses that i've never sent stuff to from my other email addy dave_pirjo[at]surfeu.fi

i have f-secure antivirus including firewall, xp SP2, i run adaware and spybot regularly, i don't use IE excpet for checking sites...

He is an AOL user? How was your email bounced - from his server? your server?

d a v e -> RE: blacklisted (12/22/2004 14:36:01)

no he's not an aol users - not sure where it was bounced from. i got a mail from him ok half an hour ago... sorry it's a bit vague!

the email he sent came through a few minutes ago, about half an hour after he sent it. strange.

That's just bogg standard SPAM...i'e had it a few times, on email address that are just set up for my forums...you know...the "not monitored" inboxes...

Dan - Blacklisting can be either in or out or both, depends on how far the ISP blocking tha addy is taking it.

Dave - Who's your Dad's ISP?

virgin net

that's what i suspected re: the mails i've never sent getting 'returned'

jaybee -> RE: blacklisted (12/23/2004 5:08:02)

Get in touch with Virgin.net and ask why your mail is blacklisted. You may have to get your dad to do it. (If it was AOL they will only talk to their subscribers).

What has probably happened, based on a previous experience, is that they have blacklisted the whole of regionline.fi as somebody on there has been sending spam.

You could also get in touch with regionline and inform them so they can contact Virgin.

In my case it was my hotmails that kept coming back from AOL. They'd blocked all hotmail addresses due to one spammer. I think we calculated at the time that this meant half the globe couldn't mail each other. [&:]
