This is driving me a bit nuts.
I have seached the Internet, this forum and Microsoft and have been unable to find an answer.
I have FrontPage 2002 (XP) installed on my XP pro computer.
I have been using FrontPage since it was v1.1.
I have NO problem publishing to servers on the Internet.
Problem:
I can't get FrontPage to run on the IIS server that XP pro has. I've been using this version of FrontPage since it came out, but that was on a Win98 SE PC.
I can log into the files at C:\Inetpub\wwwroot but when I look at Tools | Web Settings, under Server Version it says "No server currently in use" (Extensions are 5.0.2.6417)
When I try to publish to wwwroot I am told "The folder 'fooweb' isn't accesible. The folder may be located in an unavailable location, protected with a password, or the filename contins a / or a \."
It does not ask me if I would like to create the file 'fooweb'.
Whe I try to create a new web under wwwroot I get the error:
"Server error: Unable to create a disk-based web at "C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\fooweb" because its parent web would not be a disk-based web. Create the disk-based web elsewhere, outside of your web server's document hierarchy."
When I try and publish wwwroot somewhere else on my PC, I have no problem.
When I browse to http://127.0.0.1/localstart.asp it asks me for a username and password and tells me, "You are not authorized to view this page", but if I create index.html in wwwroot, I can browse to http://127.0.0.1 and see the newly created page WITHOUT having to supply any username or password.
When I go to XP's Internet Information Services it shows my local computer with IIS V5.1 installed, and it says my "Default Web Site" is "Running".
I have a "My Webs" folder that I have been storing websites in, but I can't run scripts or some FP components from there.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? I would like to use the "correct" paths on my local computer to save and test websites.

Thank you Spooky.
And it is letting me create subwebs (I'll assume I can publish to it for now).
My server shows up as Microsoft IIS/5.11 now, but my server extensions have regressed back to 4.0.2.8912 (?!?)
I've never used http://localhost except to see what was there through my browser.
Do you have a reference where this is written. I mean, if FrontPage has a naming/publishing convention it should be documented somewhere. (I hate to think what else I am missing out on. My system has Python on it, but I'll be darned if I have figured out how to access it ...)
At any rate, I thank you for the 'fix' and hope you can point me to any documentation (I'm one of those people that learns best by reading)

Well, I just upgraded from Win98SE to XP Pro in July myself, but on my Win98 machine I had IIS 4.0 running. It just had a little task bar icon so I could turn it off & on as needed. I alays just published to c:/inetpub/wwwroot without any problems at all.

I remember extending FrontPage to my entire Win98 machine (that might have been with FP2000), which turned out to be a real stupid idea. - I wonder if I somehow extended the server service to the c:/inetpub path. I'll have to look into that one ...
It could also that XP has extra security that shuts down the alternate path. But I am really confused that I couldn't access http://127.0.0.1/localstart.asp with out special permissions. I only have 3 accounts on the machine, counting the "invisible" 'Administrator' account, and none of those usernames and passwords would let me in.
