Guest -> slow page with tables (3/18/2001 20:59:00)

I've created a page that contains extensive scheduling information layed out with tables. It's a slow, slow page to download. It's moderately graphics-intensive, but I don't think that's the problem. (It's companion pages, equally graphic, download quickly.)It does contain many internal links to other pages within the site. What's really weird is that it takes 4 times longer to refresh in IE 5 than in Netscape 4.x (12 seconds vs 3) Any suggestions on how to increase overall download speed, and why IE takes so much longer to refresh? Thanks.

Could you post a url so we could see what's going on?

Have you optimized or compressed the graphics?

The address is http://www.performanceknowledge.com/schedules.htm

Another weird thing about this page is that before I changed it's look (this site has been up for a while), the schedule page downloaded fairly quickly. But I don't think it's just the graphics - the rest of the site, with the same graphics, loads OK. And Netscape refreshes much quicker than IE. Caching is on in both browsers.

I'm stumped.
Thanks for your help.

Scanning over the code, I could see nothing besides just the amount of content and size of the page that would slow it down. It is something like 167K, which is about three times larger than I like to see a page.

All I know is to slim it down as much as you can. You should be able to remove the div tags and cell height attributes. And be sure your graphics are optimized/compressed as far as possible without losing quality.

It looks very nice, by the way.

Sandy -

Thank you for taking a look at the site and your good advice. I'll trim the page down as much as possible. I still wonder why it loads so much quicker in Netscape than it does in IE - about one fourth the time. Anybody else have a similar experience?

Thanks again.
