c_robertson -> Bookmark directory creation (12/27/2004 12:48:30)

I created a business directory on my site, or the "yellowpages", and each of these businesses I solicit to create their site and link from this directory.
My delimmea is that I've made all the bookmarks (headings) but I'm looking for an easier way to extract the bookmarks and make an index. I really wish they had made a automatic index similar to the page index they made.
I'm doing it manually now, just linking to the bookmark, but with a few 100 category, I need a better/quicker way.

Right now, i'm just deleting the data between the headers (in another page) but you can't group remove the bookmarks. You have to save them as dumb text then paste back into fp. When you have a few 100 bookmarks, it takes time to scroll down and find the bookmark you are looking for.

Any good ideas?

Chris

A URL would be handy.

can you also elaborate a bit more on bookmarks/headings? they can be one of many things

Thanks

URL was in my signature but the direct link is www.jacksoncountyal.com/business/
The example below shows what I'm talking about. Just like a index or directy in the phone book or a regular book, just interactive, linking to the actual page.
I'm just needing to do this a little quicker. Extract all of the bookmarks and turn them into an index, linking them to the bookmark of the same name.
FP should have a index of bookmarks on "this page" or "another page" similar to the index of pages component.

Example:
Index of directory
Doctors-General pratice
Doctors-Podietry

ListingsDoctors-General pratice
Doctors-Podietry
Dr James bennet PHD
1212 james place 574-3888

Doctors-Podietry
Dr phllip a gasball
23 terrace place 228-9999

I'm afraid, there's no easy way about it, you will need to either do it manually, or go get one of the free ASp/PHP directories, I have one I made, but it's more of a classifieds listing than a Directory, but I'm sure it can be modded :)
