Unable To Connect - 12/30/2004 6:20:35
I've seen this error on a number of forums and have followed the comments and advice but still can't resolve my problem. "Folder is unavailable - may be located in an unavailable location - protected with a password or the filename contains / or \ " I have my sites hosted remotely on a dedicated windows 2003 server package. I am able to FTP into the server but not access via Front Page. I am running Windows XP Pro SP 2 The rub is that I have sites hosted on other servers with other hosting companies and can access them ok via Front Page and Visual Interdev from this laptop. This new dedicated server is the one giving me the problem. I have another remote hosted server so I tried ruinning FP on there to access these sites and got in no problem, so I don't think it can be my hosting companies server problem. I am based in Spain and my dedicated server is in the UK, but as some of my other hosted sites are in the UK and I have no problem getting into them I don't think that can be the problem either. I hope this explanation is clear enough and I would appreciate anyone giving me advise as how I can possibly resolve this issue. I have tried turning Windows Firewall and my anti-virus off, but still no joy. At present I am having to ftp my sites up from another server.

Yes FPSE is installed and running ok I am able to connect to this site from another server via Front Page but not from my laptop, but I have no problem connecting to other domains hosted by other companies from my laptop, just the new dedicated server package I have purchased. I have about 30 domains hosted by Interland, WebHost4Life and Easyspace, which I can access from my laptop via FP no problem. I decided to put them all under one umbrella and purchased a dedicated server package from 1and1 to host them all. I can Remote Desktop and FTP into this 1and1 server but cannot use FP to connect. I can connect to the 1and1 server via FP from another hosted server I have access to in the US, so there's not a problem with FPSE on the 1nad1 server, but I can't for the life of me understand if I can FP into Interland, Webhost and Easyspace why I can't FP into 1and 1, if there was a problem with my laptop or ISP then I should not be able to FP into anything. I spoke with 1and1 and they say there is no issue with the Spain ISP I use being blocked.

By using a laptop, am I right to assume that you are connecting to the Internet via a wireless connection? If so, that might be your problem

I use a wireless connection in the office and a cable at home, and have the same problem connecting with both, so don't think that is it? My service provider is the same in the office as at home, we only have Telefonica in Spain so you don't get much of a choice. BTW- why would the wireless connection be a problem

BTW- why would the wireless connection be a problem Most wireless routers have built in firewalls, of which, can and will stop connections like the ones FP tries to make, usually it's due to a dual firewall, the router and the users machine, shutting down one of the firewalls usually cures this, but it's not really a safe option. I myself use a wireless connection on my desktop machine, and have to shut down my Firewall to access a lot of things, due to me being behind a dual firewall. D

Thanks For That I have tried shutting down my firewall but it still does not work What I don't understand is that if I can access some servers through FP and not others then it must rule out a firewall/ISP issue and if I can access the server from another machine on a different ISP then that must rule out a server problem Is there anything else I can try apart from moving my hosting to a server I can connect too :-)

What's the URL you're trying to connect to? Is it a domain?
